Think Series Leadership Programme 2011

Think Series Leadership Programme 2014

Into its 7th year, ThinkSeries is spicing things up a bit. We want YOU to unleash your inner power of innovation and create a technological innovation that makes a positive impact on the global community.

To adapt to the ever-changing world, a group of selected ThinkSeries leaders would generate their original design and turn it into a prototype or even a real product! • Learn and utilise different electronic platforms, such as crowd-funding, to support your innovative experience
  • Launch your creation at the Asia’s largest spring electronics show, the HKTDC Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition) in 2014

Selection Process

Interested applicants will need to submit a 90-second video as their declaration of intent together with an online application form. Your declaration of intent should address the following guiding questions:

ThinkSeries Leaders 2011

Annis Chan, St. Paul's Secondary School

Hi everyone! I’m Annis from St. Paul’s Secondary School. To describe myself, I am optimistic, featured with a bright smile, self-motivated and dedicated. I am pretty proud of myself to bear these qualities. Yet, when I was promoted to senior form, I realised that I still have a long way to go to be a good leader as I cannot utilise my strengths very well. Shortcomings such as lack of confidence, indecisiveness, poor time management, etc. frustrate me. Even my accumulated leading experience on small events cannot help.
Ignoring those minor frustrations, things have been in fact going rather smoothly in these 16 years. And now, it is the time to refine myself by encountering difficulties in this big project, and I am certain that I will grow much from the collaboration with all 14 leaders. Dig out the positives for each challenge, reckon all hardships as exciting roller coaster rides. Smiles and fervency, I do not fear any barriers in my journey.
2011 Leaders, HERE WE GO!

Glenda Chan, Diocesan Girls' School

Hi everyone! I’m Glenda, a S4 student from Diocesan Girls’ School. I am an observant person and I think a lot about all sorts of things. Enjoying who you are and loving what you do – these are things that I value and insist on. These may sound cliché, but they help me to set clear goals and give my very best in everything I do.
In this competitive society, it is inevitably important for students to excel in academics, and perhaps, other areas as well. However, I believe that the makings of an outstanding student include qualities far beyond this, one of which is leadership. Everyone may have different interpretations of leadership, and to me, leadership is much more than the ability to guide a team. It is the skill to bring teammates together, to utilize everyone’s strength, to be conscious yet bold in every action or decision, and the list goes on. I have always been fascinated by student leaders: how they present themselves as capable individuals, their flawless speech, their excellent coordinating skills etc, and I have a lot to learn from them.
I am very grateful to be selected as one of the ThinkSeries Leaders and I will treasure this opportunity to better myself. I am sure that this will be a rewarding experience and I look forward to working with you all.

Raine Chang, Pope Paul VI College

Hello! This is Raine, from Pope Paul VI College. I am a go-getter, who often sets very high targets for me. The THiNKSeries Leadership Programme grants me the opportunity to see how high I can reach and it allows me to explore the limits of my potential. The Programme immerses leaders into reality, with many challenges coming ahead. Together we shall tackle the problems, and strive for success!
I believe the coming six months will bring lots of excitement to our busy school lives. I am looking forward to establishing friendship and team spirit with the others!

Johnny Chu, Queen's College Old Boys' Association Secondary School

Hi! This is Johnny Chu, a form six arts student from Queen’s College Old Boys’ Association Secondary School. I love reading and watching TV. Through reading and watching and watching TV, I can enhance my knowledge, broaden my horizons and, most importantly, foster a global perspective.
In the eyes of my classmates and teachers, I am a very confident and outspoken person. That’s the reason why my teacher strongly recommended this programme to me. However, I know clearly that I am not. When I encounter difficulties and obstacles, I easily lose hope and confidence, my English isn’t very good as well. Therefore, I hesitated when suggested to join this programme. After a few nights of tossing and turning, I finally came to realize that this is a good opportunity for me to sharpen my competitiveness. I then summoned up the courage to sign up for the programme.
Never had I imagined that I would be admitted into this programme. Frankly speaking, I yelled with excitement after being informed of this! After all, opportunity knocks but once! Therefore, in the foreseeable period of the programme, I will utilize every opportunity to strive for new heights. I will try my best to acquire perseverance and confidence so that I can face any challenges with courage and strong faith. I hope that I can learn to be a good leader through this programme. I am sure that I will have a fruitful and happy time working along with the other 19 of my fellows!

Charles Huang, PLK Law Foundations College

Hello, I am Charles, a typical local Hong Kong student. I use most of my free time browsing the web and hanging out with my friends. Despite being a typical local student, unlike others I have the motivation to be better than everyone else and then eventually being better than myself. I believe that everyone single one of us are all ambitious, the thing that differentiates us is whether we take action.
I feel grateful for being picked as a ThinkSeries Leader as I know that the program will improve me further. I hope that I will be a great leader who can lead and cooperate seamlessly with others after the program.

Ruby Lai, True Light Middle School of HK

Hi everyone! This is Ruby, a student of True Light Middle School. I am grateful to be one of the leaders this year. Always being described as an extroverted and talkative girl, I always try to seek a moment of silence through submerging myself in music. I love music because of its diversity, and its ability to trigger everyone’s emotions.
Having a global perspective will be important in the coming future. I hope to strengthen this, and at the same time further polish my communication skills in order to facilitate the cooperation between my teammates. I hope to become a charismatic leader who will never be overwhelmed by failures.
There’s a saying that “Nothing Is Impossible”, we say it but we often don’t believe in it. However, from today on, I will believe in myself. Teammates, let’s set our goal, pursue our dreams, work for it and I know for sure we will eventually reach our destination. So teammates, fasten your seatbelts, our exploration is about to begin!

Meolody Lo, PLK Laws Foundation College

Hi! This is Melody from Po Leung Kuk Laws Foundation College. As a Form 6 student, I have taken a few posts in different aspects at school. They require me to handle challenging issues and to cooperate with both teachers and students.
By participating in the ThinkSeries Leadership Programme, I hope to perform my best under pressure and engulf others in my success, to listen to others’ opinions and make rational judgments as a leader. Leaving my comfort zone and making new friends to achieve our mutual goals are also some of my aims.
I believe that we are all little gears that work best together. I hope to become a better leader by guiding and listening to people, and to be a well-rounded individual. It may be a bumpy ride along the way, but through this programme, I shall understand that obstacles will not stop me from trying again and again in order to reach further. I am really curious of what’s next!

Alison Lee, Immaculate Heart of Mary College

Hi everyone. This is Alison from Immaculate Heart of Mary College. It is a pleasure to be here with the seventeen ThinkSeries leaders and the tutors.
To be honest, I seldom speak up in front of stranger, but at least I am a good listener. I may not make the best leader, but I will definitely strive for the best. Anyway, I will try to overcome my biggest weakness of working under pressure in the coming months. Therefore, I have to equip myself with composure and most importantly, the ability to learn from my mistakes. This is because people have to bounce back and continue with tomorrow after they fall.
I hope we all can get what we want. I am looking forward to the eventful and delightful journey ahead.

Justin Ma, Ning Po College

Hello everyone! I am Justin Ma from Ning Po College, currently 15 years old.
I am glad to be a leader in the THiNKSeries Leadership Programme as I can make friends with others, while cooperating and enriching myself with various experiences. It is a challenging task for us to organize and hold a ceremony, while assuming different responsibilities in the team. I hope I can learn how to be a leader through taking part in this meaningful programme.
“With great power comes great responsibility”, that’s my motto. Everyone has talents, but only if you can make good use of your talents and contribute to the community, can you stand out from the crowd. Hopefully, I will discover my talents and learn how to make good use of them during this “adventurous” journey.
We know that there are obstacles in our journey. However, we will learn from our mistakes and overcome difficulties as a team. We will help each other to regain our confidence, and demonstrate leadership in the face of challenges. I am looking forward to our successful ceremony!

Aarushi Mehta, Marymount Secondary School

Hello everyone! I am Aarushi Mehta, born in India but brought up in Hong Kong, and I am very delighted to be selected as one of the 18 THiNKSeries Leaders 2011. I am an optimistic and benevolent person and sometimes too meticulous and organized about my things.
Through this programme, my goal is to improve my time management skills, which are one of my greatest weaknesses, as well as polish up my communication skills so as to convey my message and opinion fluently and precisely in front of an audience. I also believe that I would become more innovative, have a wider global perspective and learn to think out of the box for solutions to our difficulties.
“The greatest accomplishment is not in never falling, but in rising again after you fall.”
I hope this quote of Vince Lombardi will make us all ready to confront challenges, take up responsibilities, and overcome all obstacles wisely and efficiently. Last but not least, I look forward eagerly to working with others who all have diverse talents, vibrant personalities, big dreams, and great potentials. I wish to push my limits further, broaden my horizons and make the Thursday sessions a memorable, rewarding and fun-filled experience.

Matthew Murchie, St. Joseph's College

Hi! My name is Matthew. I am a pioneer of originality; I like to think of new, novel ideas and hate copying others. I love science, and particularly enjoy conducting bizarre experiments involving loud bangs and bright flashes. While having fun , I do try my best to be a responsible and serious leader at the same time.
I believe that leadership is as much a science as it is an art. On one hand, many sociological theories and management techniques that are of tremendous practical use can really be learnt simply from reading books and listening to other, more experienced leaders. On the other hand, interpersonal skills, the ability to delegate effectively and handle followers efficiently, the subtle art of understanding others’ feelings and motivating them, can only be developed through a gradual accumulation of experience over time.
I hope that through this training course, I will be able to learn both the science and the art of leadership and become a well-rounded leader, capable of leading all sorts of different people, in all kinds of different situations!

Tina Villareal, St. Paul's Convent School

Hi everyone! I'm Tina Villareal from St Paul's Convent School. I'm currently in Form 6 and am one of the ThinkSeries Leaders 2011. Through this programme, I hope to learn how to be an effective and engaging communicator, as well as to improve- what else?- my leadership skills. On top of that, getting to know more people from different schools is another thing that this programme grants me with.
This is the first external leadership programme that I've ever joined, so I'm quite new to this; however, I'm sure that my experience in this programme with these fellow Leaders will be a fruitful and memorable one. I do hope to live up to everyone's expectations, and set new goals for myself this year! ThinkSeries Leaders 2011- we can do it!

Ann Wong, St. Rose of Lima’s College

Greetings! I am Ann from St. Rose of Lima’s College, a F. 6 student. It is always a pleasure to learn from others, and to be engaged in the Think Series Leadership Programme is a privilege and an honour. I am a lover of literature, which is in my opinion the most valuable product of civilization as it radiates beams of humanity regardless of race and language. My love of books, ballet and films is an extension of my passion for literature and arts. From my hobbies you may conclude that I am a person who enjoys the company of peace and quietness.
I have been a reserved and quiet person all my life, and my personality is my weakest part when it comes to establishing and sustaining relationships with people. That is why I am eager to win some true friendships through this programme. And when the world is turning flat, a global perspective becomes essential in today’s work environment. I wish to broaden my horizons and capture the essence of being a global citizen.

Christie Wong, St. Stephen’s Girls’ College

Hello! This is Christie Wong, a form 4 student from St. Stephen’s Girls’ College. This is my first trial in participating in a leadership programme in my secondary school life. I must say that this is a valuable opportunity to have been nominated and elected as one of the leaders in this programme. I have been longing to experience The THiNKSeries Leadership Programme, which provides us a platform to acquire, to improve, and to imply our innovative minds on every single object that we encounter in our daily lives.
Failures are what human beings cannot prevent in life. Apart from learning to be creative, introspecting from failures and stepping out from hazes by building up confidence is also what I wish to learn in the training sessions.
I would like to end this with a quote.
Nevertheless, communication and cooperation are two essential elements between people when we are participating in the society. Therefore, I hope through the THiNKSeries Leadership Programme, I can experience meeting people of different cultural backgrounds, as well as gaining new friendships and cooperating with the other leaders. Let’s put our heads together, and get over any challenging tasks ahead!

Grace Wong, Shung Tak Catholic English College

Hi everyone! I am Grace, a secondary 6 student from Shung Tak Catholic English College. Being one of the ThinkSeries Leaders in 2011, I am really excited and am looking forward to cooperating with 17 other lovely Leaders.
"Global perspectives, innovative minds, caring generation" is our motto. I believe all of us will gain valuable experiences in the coming months while preparing for the ceremony. Not only will our communication skills be improved, but our creativity will also be cultivated. Most importantly, I hope we will be able to unite as a team and work well with each other. I am sure this will be an excellent chance for all of us to grow and be better people.
I like meeting new friends, trying new things and I enjoy working with the others as a team. Through this programme, I hope all of us will build treasurable friendships and create unforgettable memories. Also, I’m sure I will have a lot of things to learn from the other smart members. I always have the motivation to learn and improve myself, so I’m really glad that I’ve got this chance to interact with 17 students with their own unique strengths.
I am ready for our journey of innovation and exploration!

Joshua Wong, Yew Chung Internatioanl School

Hi all! I’m Joshua Wang from Yew Chung International School. I’m currently in Y11 (which is equivalent to form 5?) It’s rather ironic that the first meeting occurred during the period of my examinations and I guess I questioned myself about my commitment, but I’ve signed up, I’m here, and I’m committed.
I’m currently the 4th student representing my school in participating in the THiNKSeries program; since the start of the program in 2008. The THiNKSeries has seen to great change and development in my predecessors in the program, and I must indeed admit that it is a great pleasure to be accepted in the program and given the opportunity to add these priceless experiences to my life. It is really my pleasure to be able to be selected for this activity as the competition was really tight and I’ll treasure the opportunity I have here to work with leaders from different schools; and hopefully in the end not disappoint anyone.
I look forward to the great time ahead of us in this adventure and am on the lookout for all the lessons that would come my way. I’m quite sure that it’ll benefit me, and I would be a changed leader; but we’ll see what really happens in the end of the program. I’m looking forward to everything, and also looking forward to the limitless friendships that will be made possible by this.

Lydia Wong, St. Rose of Lima's College

Hi! I am Lydia, one of the ThinkSeries Leaders of 2011. I am currently 17 years old, or 2 to 3 years of age in dog years! I would describe myself as an adolescent with innocence and immaturity.
I am glad to be one of the leaders of the THiNKSeries Leadership Programme this year, and I hope that I will learn and grow throughout the process. ThinkSeries provides me with a golden opportunity to get along with people with different complexions and beliefs; I will definitely be enlightened and know more about my potential as long as I am with my peer group.
Here are lyrics from a pop song which I like a lot:
“I’m dreaming out loud, Dreaming out loud, Can’t find a puzzle to fit into piece of apart of me”
This must admit this is a little cocky, but I think I and all the others leaders are crucial pieces to form a completed puzzle. So let’s strive for our best, and I hope I can show you a brand new Lydia soon!

Vivian Yeung, St Paul's Convent School

Hi! I’m Vivian, a sixth former currently studying at St Paul’s Convent School.
I feel honoured to have been selected to take part in this leadership training programme. I have never been very talkative or out-going, but I see this as an opportunity to hone my communication skills because I am adept at playing the part of the listener but not the talker. I also wish to further develop my leadership skills, as well as broaden my horizons through taking part in the organisation of the ThinkSeries Awards Ceremony. I’m positive that we ThinkSeries Leaders will make a great team, and make this event a successful one!

ThinkSeries Leaders' Sharing

Annis Chan, St. Paul's Secondary School

It is a dream indeed. If I recall from the day of my interview till this moment, I can simply tell that I feel blessed to be one of the members of the 2011 ThinkSeries family!
The leadership trainings were exhausting, yet memorable. It was an experience that can never be forgotten in my life. For four consecutive months, I rushed to the office right after school for meetings, worked on the assigned tasks after meetings, constantly checked the booming mailbox, made numerous phone calls to different companies and people, etc. These were some of the countless duties! However, seeing all leaders working diligently on the project, I ended up having a few sleepless nights even the day before ceremony. Eventually when what we planned and prepared was all put into practice and reality, at last, our efforts certainly paid off!
I enjoyed a lot during the whole process. A big thank you to all my fellow leaders! You are such great comrades! Three months ago, we were still strangers to each other. Various tasks and duties gradually bonded us together into now an ever-lasting friendship. Without all their patience and tolerance, I would not have been able to organise this event and have such wonderful memories. Furthermore, I would also like to make my most sincere thank you to the guest speakers who held the cordial lessons as well as all the Wiseman Office staff who gave us an unfailing and constant support. I believe we all grew up into mature leaders together!
ThinkSeries Leadership Programme 2011 will definitely be a remarkable milestone in my life and an awesome time before heading to my DSE examinations in the future!

Glenda Chan, Diocesan Girls' School

One of the famous quotes from Walt Disney goes, “If you can dream it, you can do it.” Never did I truly understand the meaning of this sentence until the moment the ThinkSeries Awards Ceremony successfully ended.
Around four months ago, we were all given this seemingly impossible task – to be fully responsible for the whole ceremony, not to mention from publishing press releases, designing the entire rundown to hanging up banners and backdrops and dealing with logistics on the actual day. I never imagined how things would work out with endless deadlines to be met and essays and draft plans to be finished. Nonetheless, it seemed that I had just underestimated our potentials and abilities. In fact, I was unspeakably proud when our collective efforts emerged and our hard work paid off.
Being a part of ThinkSeries Leadership Programme has definitely been a rewarding experience for me! Despite having my email constantly bombarded and spending hours in Wiseman Education’s office, I learned a lot through attending the training sessions and organizing the ceremony. This programme has equipped me with management and leadership skills as well as provided me with an opportunity to put them into practice. Last but not least, I earned lifelong friendships with other fellow leaders and I will never forget those precious memories in the past few months. Thank you my team partners, new friends and dreamers. I am more than grateful to have you all.
Thus, from now on, go ahead, dream the impossible dream and make it come true! (:

Raine Chang, Pope Paul VI College

The last night before the morning of the actual big day of the ThinkSeries Awards Ceremony, neither tension nor excitement left us!
Months ago, I thought the eighteen of us were simply given the most impossible mission. Being a green hand in organizing a ceremony, I had no idea how and where to start from. But fortunately, thanks to the Wiseman staff and the other leaders, who always stood beside and accompanied us all along, it gave the strength to carry on even when I was stuck. We began as a group of strangers initially, but as time went by, we gradually became a big close-knit family. You are all brilliant people and I am amazed by how the chemistry we brought within us made the ceremony a successful one!
The trainings we have gone through, moments of laughter that we have shared and the challenges that we have encountered and come across not only made us stronger and more prepared to face the reality, but it will surly make me proud and happy when I look back at those times. I am proud to be one of the ThinkSeries leaders 2011!
ThinkSeries Leadership Program has also convinced me that dreams are not impossible. To dream big and high is nothing wrong at all. The program may not bring each of us to reach our dreams, but it definitely did bring us closer to them.
“You may say I am a dreamer, but I am not the only one.”

Johnny Chu, Queen's College Old Boys' Association Secondary School

Six months ago, I went to the interview for selection into this workshop. Being convinced that I could barely have a chance to be selected, I did not hold much hope on it. I regarded it as a mission impossible. However, to my surprise, I actually got admitted to ThinkSeries Leadership Programme. And that’s when a new chapter of my life started!
In the beginning, we, the ThinkSeries Leaders 2011, were told that we would have to organize an awards ceremony. To be honest, I again thought that it was a ridiculously impossible mission. After all, we were just a group of students! How could we be capable of holding such a big event? I kept thinking this way until we actually survived after the ceremony. Yes, indeed WE MADE IT! From the selection interview to the ceremony, we all managed to get through and accomplish the mission together!
The Programme now finally comes to an end. But the newly started chapter of my life has not ended yet. With the experience gained and the skills learnt here, I believe my future will be brightened!
I would also like to take this chance to thank all the trainers, Wiseman staff and my fellow leaders. Without all their efforts, the ceremony wouldn’t be held so successfully. Lastly, I sincerely hope that our friendship will last forever. Wish you all a bright future!

Ruby Lai, True Light Middle School of HK

The journey which seemed to have ended in fact has just started. What I gained is not only the plaque but also the courage to face difficulties and treasure valuable friendships. In life, we have to learn to survive and find its sweeter side ourselves because life is going to be tough all the times. Similarly, we managed to get through the hectic deadlines to be met and constant emails bombarding our inbox. Matters did go wrong once-in-a-while but we solved them immediately and effectively. We were allowed to fail which is very essential in the process of learning. We learnt how to fail and cope with failure! Everything had to be done and handled by ourselves without any supervision or orders given by the heads. This made the experience even more precious and interesting. All these challenges inspired us and gave us a chance to show our potentials. And this officially made us the leaders of ThinkSeries Leadership Programme 2011! It was indeed an unforgettable, incredible and indispensable experience of my life.
This year’s ceremony might not have been the best of all these years but it was definitely the best we delivered! We have successfully made our dreams come true and our efforts are rewarding, too!

Meolody Lo, PLK Laws Foundation College

After months of preparations, we finally did it! I realized that this programme was no ordinary one! It’s more of an event-organizing programme, which requires a lot more skills than in a typical leadership programme. However, little did I know, during the ThinkSeries awards ceremony, I was outsmarted once again. Being the MC, on the stage, with scripts prepared, all I can say is that life is full of surprises, with sudden unexpected changes, re-presenting several prizes, and prepared funny jokes which get a dead silence response from the crowd. Challenging as it was, it was still indeed a rewarding opportunity to exceed myself in various skills.
I also gained valuable experiences from all these challenges. During the programme, I have become a more outgoing person when I had to step out of my comfort zone and more courageous in speaking up and taking on extra responsibilities. I have fallen with my mistakes but learnt that there are always ways to get myself back up and not make the same errors again.
Wiseman gave us the perfect opportunity to maximize our capabilities and potentials with the right guidance. All these made me a better person and I am thankful for having joined the programme. Now that the programme has come to an end, my mailbox will no longer be bombarded with come-what-may e-mails, and I no longer have to spend endless time in adjusting budgets or writing satisfactory MC scripts, but the thought of not meeting up with the leaders every Thursday does make me feel quite empty. It is because I can honestly say we, leaders, have become like one big family all working hard to strive for success. We all grew with our dreams and dared to make changes. Thus, I’m definitely proud to say that I was a ThinkSeries leader of 2011! If there’s any more challenge out there for me, bring it on!

Alison Lee, Immaculate Heart of Mary College

We have done it! I never thought it would finish that fast.
I remember how we were extremely nervous and furious a week before the ceremony. We had to prepare a lot of things and make changes on plans. We didn’t even have a full rehearsal. These images are still fresh in my mind. Nevertheless, fortunately, thanks to all Wiseman staff and my fellow leaders, we were able to overcome all the anxiety and we pursued our ‘dream’ together. The ceremony was held quite successfully.
‘When reality brings you nowhere, look beside you and your dreams will be there.’
The moments I had together with the other 17 comrades since the beginning of 2011 will definitely remind me of my dreams. And these will give me the strength to dream bigger and make the dreams come closer to me. Furthermore, the experience and skills that I have come across will benefit me throughout my lifetime. May all of us have an enjoyable and memorable 2011!

Justin Ma, Ning Po College

It’s been a few months that we leaders started working together. We’ve tried our best to strive for excellence in areas that we were responsible for and voluntarily stepped out to help out the other teammates. With the invaluable opportunity to hold the ThinkSeries Award Ceremony, I not only gained insights into areas I wasn’t familiar with, but also let my strengths grow further.
The most rewarding experience is surely being the MC who contributes verbally. There were thousands of last minute changes on our scripts and arrangements which really tested my flexibility. I learnt that it is definitely quite a challenge to stay calm and deal with the unexpected situations on the stage. Fortunately, our MC team staged a good show and the ceremony ran smoothly.
It’s indeed an honour to work with the other 17 innovative minds to reach our common goal. Along this journey, we broadened our horizons and became good friends. We shared responsibility, realized the importance of communication skills and empathy, which are the elements of leadership. With these elements, we are now confident to embark on new dreams. With leadership, we are able to lay the groundwork for our further success. When we look back to our successful ceremony and the shining smiles on all participants’ faces, we will remember the unbreakable bond among us leaders as well as this adventurous journey!

Tina Villareal, St. Paul's Convent School

Finally, after four consecutive months of continuous preparation, the THiNKSeries Awards Ceremony was successfully held! I say successfully held here, in that everyone in the THiNKSeries Leadership Programme has come together to put this show on the road!
This entire programme has been both learning and teaching experience for all of us - we put our skills into practice, shared it with others and in turn were taught more in return. Looking back, there isn't really anything I would say that I regret not doing due to the fact that every one of these highly motivated and dedicated people pushed me to do my best, co-operate and work hard!
It may be the end of the programme, but it definitely isn't the end of this team! It was a pleasure getting to know all the other 17 leaders and I hope we shall all stay in touch!

Ann Wong, St. Rose of Lima’s College

Trying to cope with school work and simultaneously bearing the responsibilities of a leader is not an easy task, but somehow we managed to pull through it. The truth is that the idea of giving up did cross my mind several times when school was too harsh to endure and after-school hours were too precious to waste. But I questioned myself: why spend so much time on an extra-curricular activity? Why not skip a meeting? Why not neglect my duty when no one else notices? Then three months passed in hard work and great discoveries bring an end to the ThinkSeries Leadership Programme and now I have found the answers to all my questions.

Christie Wong, St. Stephen’s Girls’ College

I always used to believe that an outstanding leader can control and manage every aspect of a team, and the success of a project depending on whether there is an eminent leader to lead the team. However, after all these days I have spent with the other 17 THiNKSeries Leaders, I realized that my belief was proved wrong: things cannot be done simply by one man’s power. There is no ‘I’ in a team. It is always the ‘WE’ that makes up a whole complete successful and co-operative team. Every step a team makes needs to have communication and cooperation between members. What this Leadership Programme taught me is not simply jumping from a starter to a leader, but also taking every step wisely in order to reach our ultimate goal. It was really fun challenging ourselves to organize the entire awards ceremony. During every session, we discussed about each and every minute details of the ceremony, contacted different companies to order materials that we need, and held our hands and put our heads together to tackle all problems in our way. The process was toilsome, but the final result was indeed pleasing. Our baby was finally born after weeks and weeks of hard work. “痛苦,並快樂著” can best describe my feelings towards the whole process. I am so glad to have you all, leaders!

Grace Wong, Shung Tak Catholic English College

“What makes life difficult is that the process of confronting and solving problems is a painful one. Yet it is in this whole process of meeting and solving problems that life has its meaning.”
This saying in The Road Less Travelled by M. Scott Pect describes exactly how I feel after becoming a ThinkSeries leader. This youth programme is not any ordinary one. We were given a lot valuable chances to learn, to grow and to stand out as leaders.I treasure every moment I spent with the other leaders. I’ve been amazed at how talented and smart they all are; some have excellent leadership skills and always get the big picture of what’s going on, some are good at communicating, while some carry the confidence when they speak in front of public. I’m so glad that I had the chance to learn from them and I was lucky enough to co-operate with them in planning the ThinkSeries Awards Ceremony. Not only have they got the charm as leaders, but they are also friendly and generous. We are united as a team, and it is the strong friendship which makes our team unique.
The ceremony may not have as smoothly run as we thought it to be. It was quite a mess in the beginning and we lost directions for a moment. But we didn’t fall, carried on and tried our best to put things back into order. This was a very special experience which will always be imprinted in our memories when we grow up. We were lucky to have this chance to make mistakes, and to learn from the mistakes.
I would like to thank all the Wiseman staff who guided us throughout this journey, and I hope we leaders will continue to strive for excellence through all the difficulties in life.

Joshua Wong, Yew Chung Internatioanl School

It’s finally over! After long months of hard work that came up to the ceremony, it’s now over! The ceremony is done and was successfully held! We did it!
Nonetheless, the journey doesn’t end here! Another page flipped and another race ran - it definitely hasn’t been easy, well or all smooth. All the things that we have learnt from our experience, the ups and the downs, and the goods and the bads, will carry on with us for our whole life. And hopefully we will be able to apply them in our future.
It has been a long race and I must thank the wonderful students I had the pleasure to work with as well as the Wiseman staff who helped us out in every way. It has truly been a new experience for me!
As we continue walking on this journey, I wish all my fellow leaders all the best in life ahead!

Lydia Wong, St. Rose of Lima's College

Rewinding everything I have done during the past three months, it seems to be a mere dream of mine!
I precisely remember the day when I first met the 18 complete strangers who were all cool, outstanding and bright. Initially, I felt that we were very distant and the first thought that came in my mind was “how I would be able to manage to organize such an enormous awards ceremony with this batch of elites, while I am not even one of them?” But soon I realized I was not wholly correct! They are no doubt smart but also vigorous teenagers who would gossip and play around! We got on well with each other and I indeed had a great and memorable time with all my new peers!
Though I didn’t do a perfect job, I have surly learnt a lot. Most importantly, I made so many new friends and I would like to say a big “Thank You” to them all since because of them, the whole entire ceremony mission becomes more real and vivid!

Vivian Yeung, St Paul's Convent School

The ThinkSeries Award Ceremony has come to an end and I’ve learned one of the most valuable lessons in my life.
I’ve gained more from the ThinkSeries Leadership Programme than I would ever have imagined. Not only have the 18 of us undergone extensive training sessions conducted by professionals and acquired various vital leadership skills, but we have become lifelong friends! It has been an interesting and eye-opening experience working with my teammates. This programme is certainly much more than just a series of training sessions - organising the big event has taught me how to communicate with people, how to meet deadlines, how to tackle last-minute changes and much more. We might have made countless mistakes during the entire process of preparation, but we got an opportunity to learn from them.
A year ago, I would have never dreamed that I would be able to take part in organising such a big ceremony, but here I am now, having helped successfully hold the ceremony! The experiences I’ve gained will surly help me in facing difficulties and challenges in the future. I’ll always remember my time as a ThinkSeries leader as one of the most unforgettable moments of my life!

ThinkSeries Theme Song

Composed by Rose Lee (TS10), Lyrics by Vivien Ko (TS10)

On my own, I can fly, high above, in the sky
Love being alone, I lie
There’s no one on my side and I cry
But I feel someone standing by my side
Oh my friend, because of you all things seem so perfect
I wish our friendship would last till the end
ALL: The sun rises up every time you’re here
Girl: Make me standing strong
All the worries gone!
I want to thank you with all my love
ALL: My friend DO stay here beside I pray
ALL: All the time we’ve spent to play
Make me smile on my way
As what we have said.

ThinkSeries Award Ceremony 2011

Over 300 guests, awardees, parents and teachers attended this year’s THiNKSeries Awards Ceremony, held on 15th April at the HKYFG Auditorium in North Point. It is a special year, as THiNKSeries is now an official registered charity organization.

The THiNKSeries Video and Snapshot Competition entries have showcased students’ creativity and innovative ideas, with entries from all over Hong Kong and the Mainland. The Top 3 awardees were invited to attend the ceremony to receive their awards, as well as to have a chance to see their work shown to the public.

All winning entries exhibited the winners’ interpretations of this years’ theme “Dream”. Throughout the ceremony, winning Snapshots Awards were shown, as well as clips from the videos of the winners of the Video Competition.

At the end of the ceremony, it was announced that the 2012 THiNKSeries Theme would be “Change”.
